ACT Government Street Tree Planting
Overview
BurHor Group delivered specialist street tree planting, arboricultural and urban forest management services for the ACT Government, supporting the enhancement and long-term sustainability of Canberra’s extensive urban tree canopy. Services covered streetscapes, public open spaces and community assets across the capital.
Works included advanced tree planting, establishment maintenance, watering programs, structural pruning to AS4373, tree risk assessments, tree health inspections, root zone management, tree removals, stump grinding, emergency response, soil improvement and replacement planting.
Outcomes/Benefits
BurHor contributed to the establishment and ongoing management of healthy, resilient tree populations that improve environmental outcomes, community amenity and the character of Australia’s capital city. GIS asset management enabled proactive management of urban forest assets with accurate mapping, condition monitoring and transparent reporting that supported the ACT Government’s long-term objectives for sustainable urban tree management.
Challenges/Solutions
Urban tree management in an established city requires careful coordination around infrastructure, traffic and pedestrian safety. BurHor’s qualified arborists delivered all works safely and in accordance with industry best practice, while GIS technology provided the asset intelligence needed for proactive, rather than reactive, urban forest management.
